The BGRS traction bracket for the Subaru BRZ / Toyota 86 / GR86 was developed to correct a design compromise in the standard suspension. Subaru uses components for the rear axle geometry that were originally designed for AWD vehicles such as the WRX STI.

All-wheel drive systems operate with significantly more anti-squat than is sensible in a pure rear-wheel drive system. In the BRZ/86, this geometry leads to unnecessarily harsh handling and a very sensitive response to accelerator pedal movements.


Function & Effect

The BGRS Traction Bracket adds two additional mounting points to the standard mounting position. This provides a total of three anti-squat levels, including the OEM position.

Internal tests show that reducing anti-squat significantly improves both ride comfort and rear axle traction. The traction bracket is aimed at drivers seeking balanced performance with good everyday usability.

The bracket is made entirely of steel for maximum durability and high fatigue resistance. The OEM-like e-coating ensures reliable corrosion protection and a long service life.


Settings & Voting

  • Two additional adjustment positions besides the standard geometry

  • Adjustment is also possible with the suspension installed.

  • Track-side adjustment can be performed using hand tools

The adjustment results in only minimal changes to the rear axle toe. In tests, no further wheel alignment was necessary when the position was changed.
For track use, it is recommended to align the vehicle with the top hole on the bracket.


Note on driving dynamics

The increase in rear axle traction is clearly noticeable and changes the vehicle's balance. The additional grip level at the rear axle can lead to a stronger tendency to understeer.

Depending on the setup, it can be useful:

  • to select a softer front stabilizer setting

  • to optimize the negative camber on the front axle

  • alternatively, use a stiffer rear stabilizer bar.

A larger rear stabilizer bar reduces some of the additional grip at the rear axle, but simultaneously relieves the front tires. This can further improve overall performance on the track.
